Tɪᴇʀ 1: Bᴀsɪᴄ Hᴜᴍᴀɴ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~0–25 mph
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~40 km/h
Mᴀᴄʜ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: Negligible
This tier represents ordinary human movement. Most civilians, researchers, and physically normal characters fall somewhere within this category. An average person normally runs considerably slower than the upper limit, particularly over meaningful distances. Everyday jogging may only reach around 5–10 mph, while physically fit individuals can briefly sprint considerably faster. Exceptional real-world athletes may approach the upper boundary, but they cannot maintain those speeds for long. Characters at this level are entirely dependent on normal human biomechanics. Acceleration takes several steps, sharp turns reduce speed dramatically, uneven terrain presents a serious obstacle, and exhaustion quickly limits maximum performance. In combat, Tier 1 characters move at speeds recognizable to ordinary people. Punches, tackles, evasive movements, and short charges can still happen quickly, but other humans can visually follow their movement without any special perception.
Tɪᴇʀ 2: Pᴇᴀᴋ Hᴜᴍᴀɴ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~25–50 ᴍᴘʜ
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~80 ᴋᴍ/ʜ
Tier 2 represents characters who have pushed physical movement beyond what ordinary humans can realistically achieve while still remaining relatively grounded compared with true superhumans. These characters move with extremely powerful strides and explosive acceleration. A Tier 2 character could rapidly cross a room before most ordinary people fully react, chase down bicycles, and temporarily compete with slower motor vehicles. At the upper end, their sprinting begins to look abnormal. Their feet strike the ground with noticeably greater force, their strides cover unusual distances, and ordinary humans may struggle to track sudden short-range movements. They remain slow enough that environmental destruction is generally minimal. They may scatter loose objects, kick up dirt, or strike doors and furniture hard enough to damage them while moving, but their passage does not create significant pressure waves. These are characters who are clearly physically exceptional without yet appearing like traditional speedsters.
Tɪᴇʀ 3: Eɴʜᴀɴᴄᴇᴅ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~50–120 ᴍᴘʜ
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~190 ᴋᴍ/ʜ
Tier 3 marks the beginning of superhuman movement. Characters at this level can move faster than almost every ordinary ground animal and can keep pace with vehicles traveling on ordinary roads. Short-distance acceleration becomes extremely impressive, allowing them to cross streets, rooms, and smaller combat arenas almost instantaneously from the perspective of normal humans. A Tier 3 fighter charging from 50 feet away may reach their opponent before an ordinary civilian has enough time to consciously process what is happening. Their movement begins creating noticeable environmental reactions. Dust can be thrown behind them, grass bends beneath their passage, shallow water sprays outward, and loose objects can be displaced by the air they disturb. At higher speeds, ordinary architecture begins becoming restrictive. Tight hallways, crowded environments, staircases, and sharp corners prevent them from using their maximum speed effectively. This tier often represents the first level where characters must consciously regulate their movement around ordinary people. Most Category 1 Kryptids fit this tier as well.
Tɪᴇʀ 4: Sᴜᴘᴇʀʜᴜᴍᴀɴ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~120–300 ᴍᴘʜ
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~480 ᴋᴍ/ʜ
Tier 4 characters operate at speeds comparable to extremely fast vehicles. Running across a city block may take only seconds. Large battlefields can be crossed almost immediately, and ordinary vehicles become ineffective at escaping them. Characters at this level begin experiencing significantly greater aerodynamic resistance. Their clothing, equipment, hair, and exposed skin experience extreme wind pressure when traveling near maximum speed. Their footsteps may crack weak pavement or leave noticeable impressions depending on their weight and running technique. Loose debris can be blown aside by their passage, and dust trails may follow them through dry environments. Combat involving Tier 4 characters becomes increasingly difficult for ordinary people to visually follow. To a normal observer, sudden movements might appear as streaks, blurs, or abrupt changes in position. However, they remain well below the speed of sound. This allows them to travel extremely quickly without producing true sonic booms. These guys can cross several miles in minutes and easily outrun almost all civilian ground vehicles.
Tɪᴇʀ 5: Exᴛʀᴇᴍᴇ Sᴜᴘᴇʀʜᴜᴍᴀɴ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~300–600 ᴍᴘʜ
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~965 ᴋᴍ/ʜ
Mᴀᴄʜ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~Mᴀᴄʜ 0.4–0.8
Tier 5 represents characters approaching the physical boundary between conventional super-speed and sonic movement. At these velocities, crossing significant portions of a city takes extremely little time. A character moving near the top of this tier could travel approximately ten miles in about a minute. Acceleration becomes extremely violent. Going from stationary to several hundred miles per hour creates enormous stress on the body and surrounding environment. Characters capable of doing this regularly generally require enhanced durability, balance, and muscular control. Air resistance becomes a significant factor. Nearby dust, paper, leaves, lightweight furniture, and debris can be thrown violently outward when the character passes. Sudden turns become increasingly difficult because maintaining several hundred miles per hour around tight corners requires tremendous lateral force. Characters at the upper end begin entering the transonic region, where air pressure behaves differently around the body and shock effects may begin forming. These character can cross a large city in only a few minutes and travel between nearby communities extremely quickly.
Tɪᴇʀ 6: Sᴏɴɪᴄ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~600–1,200 ᴍᴘʜ
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~1,930 ᴋᴍ/ʜ
Mᴀᴄʜ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~Mᴀᴄʜ 0.8–1.6
Tier 6 represents characters capable of reaching and surpassing the speed of sound. Once a character passes approximately Mach 1, their movement produces a shockwave rather than ordinary displaced air. Depending on altitude, atmospheric conditions, and how rapidly they accelerate, their movement may create powerful sonic booms capable of rattling windows, startling civilians, and damaging fragile structures. At these speeds, a character could cross ten miles in less than one minute and potentially travel across an entire metropolitan region within minutes. A strike delivered while moving hundreds of miles per hour can carry enormous kinetic energy even without extraordinary physical strength. High level Category 2 Kryptids and Category 3 Kryptids may be here, also those of this tier.
Tɪᴇʀ 7: Sᴜᴘᴇʀsᴏɴɪᴄ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~1,200–2,500 ᴍᴘʜ
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~4,000 ᴋᴍ/ʜ
Mᴀᴄʜ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~Mᴀᴄʜ 1.6–3.3
Tier 7 represents genuine high-end super-speed. Characters within this category move several times faster than sound and can cover tremendous distances in extremely short periods. At maximum speed, traveling fifty miles may require little more than a minute. Their movement can create extremely powerful sonic effects. Continuous travel near populated regions may shake windows, generate thunder-like booms, disturb bodies of water, and scatter lightweight debris. At this level, ordinary terrain becomes one of the greatest limitations. Trees, buildings, vehicles, cliffs, and pedestrians become dangerous obstacles because even minor collisions at these velocities carry catastrophic energy. Acceleration and braking must therefore be highly controlled. Characters who lack corresponding agility may require enormous distances to safely reach maximum speed or stop. Tier 7 combatants generally cannot use their full travel speed during every exchange. Instead, they often utilize shorter bursts between attacks while operating at a lower but still extraordinary combat speed. Elite Category III and special Category IV Kryptids are at this tier.
Tɪᴇʀ 8: Hʏᴘᴇʀsᴏɴɪᴄ
Gᴇɴᴇʀᴀʟ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~2,500–3,850 ᴍᴘʜ
Aᴘᴘʀᴏxɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ Mᴀxɪᴍᴜᴍ: ~6,200 ᴋᴍ/ʜ
Mᴀᴄʜ Rᴀɴɢᴇ: ~Mᴀᴄʜ 3.3–5
Tier 8 represents the highest natural movement-speed classification. Characters at this level possess movement approaching Mach 5, placing them at the lower boundary of hypersonic velocity. A Tier 8 character moving at maximum speed could cover 1 mile in roughly 1 second for the slowest, and 500 miles in 8 minutes for the fastest. Movement at this level dramatically affects the surrounding atmosphere. Powerful shockwaves follow the character, air compresses violently around their body, and poorly controlled travel can create dangerous pressure effects. Using full Tier 8 speed inside a city would therefore be extraordinarily risky. A character moving at Mach 5 through crowded streets could potentially cause destruction without intentionally attacking anyone. The character must also possess exceptional durability simply to survive their own movement. Debris or airborne objects become dangerous projectiles when encountered at several thousand miles per hour. Turning is another major challenge. A sharp directional change at Mach 5 produces enormous forces, meaning only characters with exceptional agility and physical control can maneuver freely at maximum speed. For this reason, Mach 5 should normally represent an absolute burst limit rather than casual movement. Even characters classified within Tier 8 may commonly fight or travel considerably slower while reserving their full output for straight-line pursuits. Tier 8 characters should feel genuinely exceptional even among superhumans and Kryptids. Calamity Category IV and Category V Kryptids go here usually go here.
