Parros Horizon Cruise Ship

On August 12th, 2079. A large cruise ship tagged with the name Parros Horizon moved steadily across the vast open ocean, its enormous hull cutting a clean path through the deep blue water as its engines maintained a deliberately relaxed cruising speed toward the distant island ahead. Despite the tremendous size of the vessel, its movement appeared almost effortless from the upper decks, with white foam curling outward from the bow before dissolving into the rolling waves and leaving behind a broad wake that stretched far into the distance. The Horizon itself was a massive modern luxury cruise ship designed to carry thousands of passengers comfortably across long stretches of ocean, with restaurants, pools, lounges, observation areas, shops, entertainment spaces, recreational facilities, and countless private balconies occupying its towering decks. Navy-blue sections along its hull were decorated with elegant golden patterns and nautical designs, while the name "Parros Horizon" was displayed prominently across the forward section of the vessel. Even with all its amenities and passengers, however, the ship seemed remarkably small compared to the seemingly endless ocean surrounding it, especially now that there were no other major vessels or pieces of land nearby.

There was still nothing resembling a harbor immediately around them. No tugboats waited nearby, no docking platforms stretched into the water, no smaller transportation vessels approached to meet them, and the shoreline was still far too distant for most passengers to distinguish individual buildings without binoculars or the powerful zoom of a camera. Their destination Island was visible, but only as an enormous distant landmass resting against the horizon, its highest formations appearing first while much of the lower coastline remained obscured by distance and atmospheric haze. At their current speed, there was still considerable travel remaining before the ship would even reach the designated approach corridor leading toward Parros Harbor, meaning everyone aboard had plenty of time to enjoy their first view of the island before the complicated docking procedures began.

From the upper observation decks, passengers gathered along the railings as word quickly spread throughout the ship that the Island had finally come into view. Some shielded their eyes from the bright afternoon sunlight while trying to make out details in the distance, while others immediately pulled out phones, professional cameras, and binoculars to capture their first glimpse of the destination. From this far away, it appeared less like an ordinary island and more like an enormous silhouette rising directly from the ocean, with its massive natural formations being the easiest features to recognize. Towering mountains, colossal cliffs, gigantic stone pillars, and enormous natural arches rose high above the distant coastline, some reaching such extraordinary heights that they remained clearly visible despite the many miles separating them from the Horizon. Between those formations were faint traces of civilization, with clusters of modern buildings appearing miniature from the ship's current position and occasional flashes of sunlight reflecting from distant glass skyscrapers, towers, and other structures hidden among the island's immense geography.

Parros was clearly no isolated tropical settlement. Even from the middle of the ocean, passengers could tell that an enormous modern city had been constructed throughout the island, with its developers apparently choosing to build around the natural environment rather than completely replacing it. The island's sheer scale made judging the remaining distance surprisingly difficult, as mountains that appeared relatively close were actually many miles away, their extraordinary height allowing them to dominate the horizon long before the ship reached the coastline. Yet the island wasn't the only thing attracting everyone's attention. A pod of Orcas had joined the ship during the final portion of its journey, and their unexpected presence had quickly become just as exciting to many passengers as seeing the island itself. The first few had appeared off the port side earlier, their tall black dorsal fins briefly breaking through the surface before disappearing beneath the waves. Initially, most passengers assumed the animals were simply investigating the unfamiliar vessel and would eventually move on, but instead more orcas appeared until several members of the pod were traveling alongside the ship. They seemed perfectly comfortable matching the ship's general direction while maintaining enough distance from the hull to move freely, occasionally disappearing completely beneath the surface only to reappear several moments later somewhere else around the vessel.

Their presence quickly transformed the exterior observation decks into some of the busiest areas aboard the Horizon. Children leaned excitedly against the railings as enormous black-and-white bodies emerged from beneath the water, while adults crowded around observation points with cameras raised in hopes of capturing the perfect photograph. Crew members repeatedly reminded passengers not to throw food, objects, or anything else into the ocean, although even some employees occasionally stopped working long enough to admire the animals themselves. One particularly large orca traveled near the starboard side, surfacing every few minutes before slipping beneath the water again, while two smaller members of the pod followed farther behind and occasionally crossed through the outer edges of the ship. Every so often, one of the orcas accelerated enough for its dark shape to become visible beneath the clear water before suddenly bursting through the surface. The resulting splash glittered beneath the afternoon sunlight before raining back into the ocean, usually accompanied by excited cheers from the passengers watching from above. Despite the animals' seemingly playful behavior, the crew continued maintaining a respectful approach, with the ship's navigation team carefully monitoring the pod's position and keeping the vessel at a predictable speed rather than making unnecessary changes in direction. There was something strangely peaceful about the entire scene: one of humanity's enormous technological creations traveling across the open ocean while some of the sea's most recognizable predators voluntarily swam beside it, all while the distant silhouette of Parros Island gradually grew larger ahead.

A short electronic chime suddenly sounded throughout the passenger areas of the ship, causing conversations across the observation decks, restaurants, pools, and lounges to gradually quiet as the public-address system activated. The captain's voice soon followed, calm and clear enough to be heard throughout nearly every public section of the Horizon.

Captain Shmee: “Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. For those of you currently outside, and judging by the number of people I can see standing along our forward decks, that's quite a few of you. The landmass directly ahead is Parros Island. We are still several miles offshore, so despite how large the island may appear from your current position, we have not yet begun our docking approach. We will remain in open water for some time before entering Parros Harbor. Our destination is the eastern coast of the island, specifically the Parros Metropolitan Harbor District. Once we reach the designated approach corridor, harbor control will guide us toward the Horizon Terminal located outside central Parros City. The city you're beginning to see in the distance is the island's primary metropolitan region. Much of Parros was deliberately developed around its original geography, so you'll notice that many of the larger natural formations extend directly through and above portions of the city. The large formations visible behind the skyline are not artificial structures. Those cliffs, arches, mountains, and pillars are natural features of Parros Island. And yes, for those wondering, the visitors traveling alongside us are a naturally occurring pod of Killer Whales. They've been accompanying the Horizon for some time now. Our bridge team is monitoring their position, and there is currently no cause for concern. We ask that passengers enjoy the view from the ship and please refrain from throwing anything overboard. Wildlife activity is fairly common in the waters surrounding Parros, although having an entire pod escort us toward the island is certainly a memorable welcome. We will provide another announcement once we receive authorization to begin our formal approach into Parros Harbor. Until then, we remain in open ocean, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the view. On behalf of the entire crew of the Parros Horizon, welcome to the waters of Parros Island.”

The speakers clicked off, but the excitement throughout the ship remained. For now, however, Parros remained on the horizon, and the ship was still nowhere near the point where docking preparations needed to begin. The cruise ship wasn't surrounded by docks, tugboats, transportation vessels, or harbor patrol craft. Nobody was preparing gangways, luggage wasn't being unloaded, and passengers hadn't been instructed to gather near departure areas. Instead, the Parros ship continued cruising peacefully through open water, with miles of ocean still separating it from the Metropolitan Harbor District and the enormous city beyond it. Eventually, they finally got close enough to see their destination, but still far enough away that Parros remained something to anticipate rather than somewhere they had actually arrived. The enormous natural formations stood against the horizon, the distant city shimmered beneath the afternoon sun, and the Horizon continued gradually closing the distance without any urgency to reach the harbor. For the moment, there was nothing immediately surrounding them except the pod of orcas, and the vast open ocean stretching toward Parros Island.

Benjamin had claimed a quiet stretch of railing on one of the Horizon’s higher observation decks, the kind of spot most passengers ignored once the initial novelty of open ocean wore off. He stood with one hip cocked against the cool metal, arms folded loosely, dark curls stirred by a steady sea breeze that carried the clean, sharp scent of salt and distant spray. A pair of scuffed over-ear headphones hung around his neck, the cord trailing into the pocket of a plain black hoodie; the playlist had been paused for a while now, forgotten the moment the first dark outline of land began to rise against the horizon.

Parros.

He had seen the photos, the travel blogs, the grainy satellite shots people posted online. None of them prepared him for the sheer scale of the place. Mountains jutted up like broken teeth, their flanks wrapped in green and gray stone that looked older than any city he had ever walked through. Between the peaks, faint suggestions of structures caught the late light—towers, maybe, or the edges of a sprawling skyline still too far away to resolve. Benjamin narrowed his eyes, trying to pick out details, and felt the corner of his mouth lift almost without permission.

“Okay,” he muttered under his breath, the word half laugh, half admission. “That’s… actually bigger than I thought.”

He shifted his weight, fingers drumming once against the railing. Eighteen years old, second-year university student by day, something else entirely by night—though right now the “something else” felt a long way off. No rooftops. No alleyways. No need to keep one eye on every shadow. Just the ship’s steady cut through blue water and an island that looked like it had been dropped out of a storybook and left to grow wild.

A sudden, heavy splash broke the surface off the starboard side.

Benjamin’s head snapped toward the sound in time to catch a glossy black-and-white bulk rolling under. An orca. Full-grown, the white eye-patch clear even from this height before the animal vanished again in a swirl of foam. He blinked, then leaned forward a fraction, careful not to push past the safety line.

Another dorsal fin sliced the water farther out, then a third. The pod was keeping pace with the Horizon, riding the pressure wave the hull threw off. One of them breached properly this time—massive body clearing the surface in a clean arc before slamming back down with a crack that carried across the water.

“No way,” Benjamin said, voice soft with genuine surprise. He dug his phone out of his pocket, thumbs moving fast, trying to frame a shot without leaning over the rail like an idiot. The first attempt was blurry. The second caught only spray. On the third he managed a decent still of a fin and the long, dark shape beneath it before the animals slipped under again.

He lowered the phone, still watching. “They’re actually following us.”

The idea delighted him more than he would have admitted out loud. Most people on the lower decks were busy with drinks or selfies or whatever the onboard itinerary claimed was important. Up here it was quieter. Easier to notice things. Easier to just… look.

The ship’s intercom crackled to life a moment later. Captain Shmee’s voice rolled across the decks, cheerful and practiced, explaining that Parros still lay several miles ahead, that the orcas were a common escort this time of year, that passengers should enjoy the view while they had it. Benjamin listened without interrupting the quiet grin on his face. When the announcement ended he glanced once more toward the island, then slipped the phone away and settled back against the railing.

“So we’re not even there yet.”

The words came out almost fond. Plenty of time, then. Time to watch the water, the sky, the slow growth of those impossible mountains. Time without training schedules or late-night patrols or the constant low-level calculation of exits and angles. For once there were no villains to track, no expectations waiting on the other side of a rooftop leap. Just salt air, a pod of orcas pacing the ship like living shadows, and an island that looked ready to rewrite every map he thought he knew.

Benjamin rested both forearms on the rail and let the breeze do what it wanted with his hair. Curiosity sat warm and steady in his chest—the same quiet hunger that usually pushed him into the darker corners of the city, only this time it had nowhere urgent to go. He could feel it turning outward, curious about the place waiting beyond the horizon, about whatever waited once the Horizon finally docked.

For Benjamin Williams, right now, that was more than enough.

1787288184560.pngThe upper leisure deck of the Parros Horizon had become Gabriela's personal slice of paradise as the massive cruise ship continued its steady journey across the open ocean. Rather than joining the crowds packed against the observation railings, Gabriela had settled into the spacious hot tub positioned beside a collection of comfortable outdoor couches and lounge furniture. Warm water bubbled around her while the afternoon breeze carried the unmistakable scent of saltwater across the deck, giving her the perfect mixture of heat and cool ocean air. A large portable speaker rested beside the couches, blaring music streamed from someone's phone loudly enough to keep their little section of the deck alive without completely drowning out conversation. Gabriela rested against the edge with one arm stretched comfortably across the rim while her other hand, held a chilled margarita, condensation already gathering along the glass beneath its salted edge. For someone accustomed to photoshoots doing absolutely nothing for a while felt surprisingly luxurious.

A few of her girls had joined her in the water, transforming what could have been a peaceful soak into something considerably louder and much more entertaining. Their conversations bounced effortlessly between gossip, jokes, fashion, people they'd noticed aboard the ship, and whatever ridiculous subject happened to surface next. Every new song coming through the speaker seemed to change the atmosphere, with recognizable tracks immediately earning louder reactions and occasional attempts at singing along. Gabriela contributed whenever something caught her interest, occasionally throwing out a perfectly timed comment before hiding her grin behind another sip of margarita. Whenever someone splashed too aggressively, however, she immediately raised her drink above the water like protecting the margarita was more important than protecting herself.

Beyond their little party, Parros Island had gradually become the centerpiece of the horizon, its immense geography making it visible long before the Horizon reached anything resembling a harbor. Massive mountains, towering cliffs, colossal stone pillars, and enormous natural arches rose above the distant coastline, while sections of the modern city could already be seen tucked between those formations. Gabriela periodically lowered her sunglasses to study the view properly, visibly impressed by how civilization seemed to have been constructed around the island rather than simply replacing everything that had existed before it. The occasional flash of sunlight reflecting from a distant glass tower only made the city seem more intriguing, especially while atmospheric haze still concealed many of its smaller details. She had seen countless beautiful locations through modeling, travel, and university life, but there was something distinctly dramatic about watching an entire metropolis slowly emerge beneath structures that made skyscrapers look small.

The ship was still nowhere near docking, and Gabriela actually preferred it that way because the distance allowed Parros to remain something 1787289438490.pngmysterious rather than immediately becoming another destination filled with schedules. There were no tugboats circling them, no harbor platforms nearby, and no crew members rushing passengers toward departure areas because the Horizon remained several miles offshore. From the hot tub, Gabriela could simply watch the island become clearer by degrees while knowing there was absolutely nothing requiring her immediate attention. She sank until the bubbling water reached her shoulders, tilted her head back against the edge, and allowed the bass from the nearby speaker to blend with the softer rhythm of the ocean. Between songs, she could hear waves rolling against the enormous ship and distant voices from passengers scattered throughout the surrounding decks.

Parros wasn't the only attraction competing for Gabriela's attention, because the pod of orcas accompanying the Horizon continued appearing alongside the vessel at unpredictable intervals. A tall black dorsal fin would suddenly slice through the blue water before disappearing again, followed moments later by another enormous body surfacing farther along the ship. Gabriela's composed expression disappeared almost every time she noticed one, replaced by the openly excited curiosity for unusual creatures she had never studied before. One of the larger orcas surfaced long enough for sunlight to shine across its black-and-white body before it slipped beneath the waves again, leaving Gabriela staring after the fading shape beneath the surface. For several seconds she completely forgot about the conversation behind her, captivated by the sight of such powerful animals voluntarily traveling alongside something as enormous as the Horizon. She then turned towards the man who was playing the music through the speaker and angled herself to get his attention while giving him a seductive looks.

Minjae had claimed one of the couches positioned beside the upper-deck hot tub, dropping into the corner beside his brother while the sea breeze moved steadily across the deck. Minjae's phone remained in his hand, connected to the large portable speaker nearby as another bass-heavy track rolled across their little section of the ship. A notes page filled with unfinished lyrics occupied his screen, several lines already crossed out and replaced as he quietly worked through another song. He mouthed pieces beneath his breath, occasionally tapping his fingers against his knee whenever a certain bar fit perfectly against the instrumental in his head. Between the music, warm sunlight, and endless ocean surrounding them, writing felt considerably easier than it usually did back home.

The ship was still several miles away from its destination, leaving nothing around them but open water and the enormous silhouette of Parros Island steadily growing across the horizon. Minjae eventually shook his head with an impressed smile before looking back down at his phone and adding another line to the verse. Unfortunately for his productivity, Parros wasn't the only view competing for his attention. Gabriela remained stretched comfortably along the edge of the hot tub only a short distance from the couches, surrounded by several of her girls while her margarita stayed safely within reach. He would type several words, reread them, then somehow find himself looking toward her again before realizing his song had stopped progressing entirely. He wasn't particularly subtle about it either, although he at least attempted to disguise the occasional glance by pretending he was looking toward the ocean behind her. One especially long look ended with him catching himself staring and slowly returning his attention toward the phone with an entertained shake of his head.

Minjae Mumbling: Fuck it, I ain't finishing this damn song.

Benjamin happened to be sitting close enough to witness the entire struggle, which immediately gave Minjae something else to entertain himself with. He locked his phone, leaned deeper into the cushions, and slowly turned toward his younger brother with the unmistakable expression of someone preparing to start unnecessary trouble.

Minjae: You know what I've been thinking? We gotta find you a new girl while we're out here. I'm your brother, so unfortunately that means fixing your love life is technically my responsibility.

Another track transitioned through the speaker, then Gabriela laughed at something from the hot tub, Minjae's attention immediately wandered again, and whatever he was thinking about in the moment disappeared completely. The music continued playing while Minjae leaned forward again, his forearms resting against his knees as he took his phone baout out and tried once more to finish the verse. Every few moments 1787343824841.pngsomeone among Gabriela's group reacted to a familiar song, occasionally singing along. Minjae couldn't help smiling whenever that happened, especially when one of his own preferred tracks received an enthusiastic response. There was something satisfying about controlling the soundtrack for an afternoon where nobody seemed particularly interested in doing anything productive. Even Benjamin's presence made the atmosphere better, despite Minjae apparently deciding his primary responsibility as an older brother was annoying him.

Eventually, Gabriela shifted her attention away from the ocean and the girls around her, turning toward the couches until her gaze settled directly on Minjae. He noticed almost immediately but continued typing for another second, curious whether she was actually looking at him or merely toward the speaker sitting nearby. Then her voice carried over the bubbling water and music. He slowly raised his eyes toward Gabriela, allowing a crooked smile to spread across his face as the word handsome registered properly. Whatever attempts he'd made earlier to hide the fact that he'd been checking her out became completely unnecessary now.

Minjae: Minjae, and I was wondering how long it was gonna take before somebody complimented the playlist. But if the music got you talking to me, then I guess I picked the right songs. Plus, getting to know you don't sound like a bad way to spend the rest of this ride either.

Gabriela's attention then moved toward Benjamin, and Minjae immediately sensed an opportunity before she had even finished speaking. Minjae's head turned toward Benjamin since this was the perfect opportunity for him. The teasing only became worse once Minjae realized Gabriela had unintentionally joined his campaign.

Minjae: Go ahead and tell your cousin I'm accepting applications on his behalf.

Once his amusement finally settled, Minjae's attention naturally returned to Gabriela, he rested one arm along the back of the couch while studying her with the same relaxed interest she'd caught from him several times already. The scenery should have been difficult to compete with, yet Minjae found himself considerably more interested in the woman relaxing at the edge of the hot tub. Minjae opened his music app and began scrolling through the playlist, occasionally glancing toward Gabriela just to see something.

Minjae: Now you got me curious. You said you like my taste, so I gotta see how far that goes before you start judging me.

He selected another track, allowing the opening notes to replace the previous song through the speaker while an expectant grin appeared across his face. For the moment, though, Minjae was perfectly content exactly where he was, playing music and Gabriela giving him a much better reason than songwriting to keep looking toward the hot tub.

Benjamin had settled into the couch beside Minjae like he planned to stay there a while, one leg tucked under him, headphones resting loosely around his neck while the ship’s speakers carried whatever playlist his brother had queued up. The ocean stretched out in every direction, a deep, restless blue that kept catching the light. Every so often his eyes drifted to the waterline where the orcas moved—dark shapes sliding just beneath the surface, surfacing in slow rolls of black and white before vanishing again. He watched them the way he watched most new things: quietly, intently, like he was trying to figure out the pattern.

He hadn’t really been tracking Minjae’s attempts to finish the song until his brother suddenly decided Benjamin’s love life was fair conversation.

Benjamin turned his head slowly. For a few long seconds he just looked at Minjae with a completely blank expression, the kind that made it hard to tell whether he was annoyed or simply processing the fact that this was happening. Then the corner of his mouth tugged upward, and the grin spread until it was open and unmistakably amused.

“You really decided that was your responsibility?” he asked, voice light. He leaned back into the cushions, arms folding across his chest in a comfortable cross. “I appreciate the effort, big bro, but I think I can handle my own love life.”

He tilted his head, giving Minjae a look that said he saw exactly what was going on. “Besides, you’re the one who’s been distracted this entire time. I’ve been sitting right here watching you try to finish that song while you keep looking over there.” A quiet laugh slipped out of him. “And now you’re trying to make me the distraction?”

He nudged Minjae’s shoulder with his own—easy, familiar—then settled back again, still smiling.

When Gabriela mentioned that Benjamin looked like his older brother and offered to introduce him to her younger cousin, his eyebrows lifted a fraction. He turned toward her with a curious but open expression, the kind that made it clear he was listening without putting on any kind of performance.

“Oh, so that’s how we’re doing introductions?” A small laugh followed the words. “Nice to meet you, Gabriela.” He gave her an easygoing smile. “And yeah, I’m his younger brother. I guess the resemblance is pretty obvious.”

He glanced sideways at Minjae for half a second before looking back at her. “Although I’m starting to think everybody is going to recognize me as ‘Minjae’s little brother’ before they learn my actual name.” The chuckle that came with it was soft, more self-aware than embarrassed.

His attention stayed on Gabriela when she brought up her cousin. Benjamin paused, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, the playful edge returning to his face.

“As for your cousin…” He gave a small, honest shrug. “I’m not completely against meeting her. But you should probably warn her that I’m not exactly the easiest person to keep up with. I’m usually pretty easygoing, but I have a habit of getting curious about everything.” His eyes drifted toward the massive island growing clearer on the horizon. “New places, strange creatures, unusual abilities… if something looks interesting, I’m probably going to investigate it.”

Another orca broke the surface then, closer this time, the white eye-patch flashing before the animal rolled under again. Benjamin’s whole posture shifted. The playful tone dropped away, replaced by genuine fascination as he leaned forward slightly, watching the water with focused intensity.

“Although, honestly, right now I’m more interested in those orcas.” His voice had gone quieter, almost thoughtful. “I’ve never seen a pod behave like that around a ship before. They’re not just passing by either. They’ve been following us for a while.” He tracked another dark shape moving just beneath the surface. “And if Parros is known for unusual wildlife…”

He looked toward the distant island, and a bright, unguarded grin spread across his face.

“I have a feeling this trip is going to get very interesting.”

Benjamin settled back against the couch again, the tension leaving his shoulders as the music kept playing around them. After a moment he turned toward Minjae, the teasing light returning to his eyes.

“But I’ll make you a deal.” He held up one finger. “I’ll consider meeting Gabriela’s cousin…” A second finger joined the first. “If you stop trying to manage my love life.” He paused just long enough for the silence to land. “And if you actually finish that song.”

He gave his brother an innocent little shrug, then turned his attention back toward the ocean, still smiling.

“Because if we’re going to spend the rest of this cruise listening to your playlist, I at least want to know whether you can finish one song without getting distracted.”

65DC315F-55FD-420F-AE90-D70CECA8F628.pngA quiet laugh escaped him as the Horizon kept cutting through the water, the silhouette of Parros growing steadily larger against the sky.

Clementine Williams, once Clementine Astor, is a 20-year-old Hispanic/European Superhuman from El Paso, Texas, who once lived happily with her family before the car crash took her parents and twin brothers. From living on a ranch outside the city to foster care, where she knew no one until she was adopted by the Williams Family, who saw the same pain of loss in her eyes as the two brothers she would come to call brothers. She is boisterous by nature, and many get annoyed by her or have simply gotten used to how she behaves, especially when it comes to partying. She is very respectable and passionate about family and friends, especially Minjae and Benjamin; she showers them with affection and often teases them whenever she has ammunition. Clementine is very amenable around people and is open to input or opinions without getting offended, able to take insults from someone without getting angry, but as soon as her adoptive brothers are mentioned, she will snap and become aggressively hostile towards them, showing no remorse, displaying strength that can leave a person hurting for days or more. Clementine is naturally a brawler at heart and has shown much interest in Mixed Martial Arts, especially watching her favorite fighter, Amanda Nunes, who is famously known as "The Lioness" after winning two belts and wants to become just as great of a MMA fighter as Nunes; however, her adoptive brothers pointed out how different she is compared to every normal human around the world who don't have strength like she does so she gave up on that plan entirely.

Relaxing at the balcony, outside a room she was personally given and has spent some time enjoying by herself, while exploring much of the cruise ship with her siblings. Stretched out on a chair, letting the sun bathe her body in the checkered bikini she chose before the cruise trip to Parros Island, but much to her adoptive family's protest, she brought more than a few bikini outfits with her on this trip, knowing she would have more and enough time to wear all of them before arriving at their destination. Yawning softly, and looks over towards the ocean and took in how beautiful the water looked with the sunlight glistening over the water's surface, how beautiful it would be under the surface where life thrived.

Her gaze caught movement and a sound of water splashing, getting up from her chair where she was sunbathing and looking over the railing to see a pod of orcas swimming alongside the ship, riding the pressure wave the ship threw off has made Clementine look with wonder at each Orca that broke the surface in an arc before diving back into the water to continue swimming along with the ship "This is amazing! I have never seen Orcas in real life time, only on TV" she says to herself with a warm smile spreading across her face, hearing the sea animals click and whistle to each other has made Clementine's heart swell at the community the Orcas can form with the intelligence they possess. Her attention would be taken away from the pod below by the speaker echoing the captain's voice talking about the island nowhere close to docking and following protocols when they arrive, the city on the island serving as the central residence for the population; this interested her greatly and she decided to go to the upper deck where she last heard Minjae and Benjamin would be at, grabbing her hat and heading out her room towards the upper deck.

IMG_4939.png
Climbing the stairs, Clementine weaves past people with excuses and apologies for bumping into them while listening for Minjae's music he usually plays out loud.
Having grown used to the musician making music and playing it through many test runs, she can easily locate where the source is coming from, and it didn't take long when she reached the upper deck, hearing his music play and his voice mixed in with Benjamin and few other people she isn't familiar with but follows the sound till she sees two familiar heads pocking above the couch with some women in front of them, from the looks of it, seems like they are getting hit on which only made her smirk with new ammunition in her tank to use on them.

Approaching them from behind and leaning on the couch between Minjae and Benjamin, she breaks her silence after hearing them both talking about getting their little brother hooked up with the woman's cousin and music "Well, well, well, I spy two of my best brothers finally talking to women! I'm so proud of you both, especially our little brother Benjamin here" winks at them both with a teasing glint in her eyes "Been wondering when this will happen but i'm glad to be here for it"

Trinity stepped onto the upper leisure deck just as another deep bass line rolled out from the portable speaker near the hot tub, the salt-heavy breeze immediately catching the open front of her teal jacket and tugging it wider across her shoulders. The late-afternoon light painted everything in warm gold and deep blue, the distant silhouette of Parros already dominating the horizon while a glossy black dorsal fin cut the water off the starboard side and vanished again. She paused for a moment at the edge of the lounge area, one hand resting lightly on her hip, letting the scene settle.

Long white hair with soft blue tips spilled down her back in loose waves, stirring around her bare midriff and the thin teal strings of the micro bikini that left almost nothing to the imagination. The matching high-platform heels clicked once against the deck as she shifted her weight, the open jacket hanging off her shoulders in a deliberate, easy drape that framed the sharp curve of her waist and the heavy swell of her chest. Water still beaded along the smooth, oiled planes of her thighs and abs from the shower she had taken before coming up; she hadn’t bothered to dry off completely. The ocean air felt better that way.

Her blue eyes swept the hot tub first. Gabriela and the cluster of girls already settled in the bubbling water. Then they flicked briefly to the couches beside it where Minjae sat with his phone and the speaker. A small, knowing curve touched her mouth. She had been looking for him anyway.

Trinity crossed the last few meters without hurry, the heels giving her that extra height that made every step deliberate and unapologetic. When she reached the edge of the hot tub she didn’t ask. She simply toed off one platform, then the other, shrugged the jacket from her shoulders, and set both the heels and the jacket neatly beside the nearest lounge chair before stepping down into the warm water with a soft splash that sent a small wave toward Gabriela’s side. She settled against the opposite rim, arms spreading along the edge, legs stretching out beneath the surface. She tilted her head toward Gabriela first once she settled in, voice carrying a smooth soft tone, low enough to stay under the music but clear.

“Mind if I join the party?” Her gaze slid next to Minjae not actually looking for a response from Gabriela, lingering a beat longer, the corner of her mouth lifting further. Well him and his siblings since he seemed surrounded now. She was content not to say anything until his sister made it seem like he didn’t get much play.

“ I’d argue he talks to women a little too much, I’m honestly surprised he isn’t held up somewhere buried in one.” A bold statement made without much concern for the company they were in or the consequences, usual for Trinity.

Gabriela caught Minjae’s answer over the music.0 and the slow smile that spread across her face made it obvious she approved of both the confidence and the delivery. She rolled the stem of her margarita between two fingers, watching him abandon whatever pretense remained of focusing on his unfinished lyrics. The fact that he had apparently been stealing looks before she spoke hadn’t escaped her either; Gabriela had spent too many years around cameras to miss when someone’s attention lingered a little longer than necessary. Rather than embarrass him for it immediately, she let her eyes travel over him once in return, deliberately enough that there could be absolutely no confusion about what she was doing.

Gabby: Minjae... Cute name, good music, and you know how to talk to women. Okay, you’re doing pretty good so far. Happy you're not lame like these other men here.

His decision to test her taste only made Gabriela perk up more. As the next song filled the deck, she raised one finger toward the speaker while quietly listening to the opening seconds. Her shoulders started moving with the rhythm before she could pretend otherwise, earning Minjae an immediate point without her ever saying it. She finally gave him a satisfied nod, then lifted her margarita toward him in approval.
Her grin sharpened afterward in a playful manner, because she was clearly enjoying giving him another reason to keep scrolling through that playlist.

Gabby: Okay, this one stays, but don’t get comfortable because I absolutely will judge you if something terrible comes on next.

Benjamin, meanwhile, had made the mistake of answering her cousin suggestion seriously enough that Gabriela immediately began evaluating the situation. His warning about being curious only amused her, considering curiosity was probably one of the worst traits anyone could mention around a woman who had repeatedly gotten too close to danger.

Gabby: That’s supposed to scare me off? Honey, I study things that could kill me because somebody tells me they have unusual anatomy, so curiosity is definitely not the dealbreaker you think it is. You might actually survive the interview.

Benjamin’s observation about their behavior immediately interested her more than it probably should have. Gabby leaned farther across the rim of the hot tub.

Gabby: See, now you’re asking the questions I like, because if these things behave differently from normal pods around the island, I need to know why, and everybody better stop me if I start asking whether we can swim with them.

Minjae and Benjamin’s little agreement brought her attention back to the couch, and this time Gabriela couldn’t keep herself from laughing when finishing the song became part of the younger brother’s terms.

Gabby: Oh no, I'm sure the last thing on his mind right now is finishing that song. I'd be disappointed myself if he chose that over me. I'd begin to think he's not that much into women at all after seeing me and still choosing to write instead.

That was when Clementine appeared behind the couch, and Gabriela’s eyebrows climbed almost instantly at the enthusiastic declaration announcing herself as another sibling. She looked from Clementine to Minjae, then Benjamin, visibly processing the growing Williams population surrounding the hot tub before a laugh escaped her. Clementine’s pride over the brothers speaking to women only made the entire situation worse, because Gabby immediately covered her mouth while laughing and glanced toward Minjae to see how badly the comment landed.

Gabby: Oooo Girl, don’t expose them while I’m still getting first impressions—I was trying to let them look smooth for at least five minutes.

She especially enjoyed the emphasis Clementine placed on Benjamin, and the expression she gave the younger brother became positively mischievous once she realized his siblings were apparently committed to sabotaging him. She rested both arms along the hot tub edge, margarita safely positioned beside her now, and looked at him with exaggerated sympathy.

Gabby: Benjamin, I am so sorry, because apparently you came on this cruise with an entire public-relations team dedicated to making sure everybody knows your business. But at least your brother is trying to help you, your sister on the other seems to prefer exposing your truth. - And Minjae.. your sister just made it sound like talking to women is some historic achievement for you too. Don't tell me you're some kind of virgin.

Gabriela finished with an innocent smile that did absolutely nothing to hide how much she was enjoying herself.

The soft splash beside her announced Trinity’s arrival before Gabby fully turned around, and she instinctively lifted her margarita away from the little wave rolling across the water. Protecting the drink came first; acknowledging the newcomer came second. Once the glass was safely outside the splash zone, she looked toward Trinity and gave her an easy smile, shifting slightly to provide more room even though the other woman had already made herself comfortable.

Gabby: You already got in, so I feel like answering no would be kinda pointless now

Clearly joking and welcoming her as she settled back against the warm edge. Gabby had never been particularly interested in turning relaxation into some strange hierarchy, especially when there was enough water, music, and alcohol for everyone.

Gabby: But yeah, come on. The more people that join, the less responsible I have to feel about how loud we’re getting.

Then Trinity casually dropped her assessment of Minjae’s experience with women, and Gabby went completely still for one glorious second. Her eyes slowly moved toward Minjae while her lips pressed together, fighting a laugh that was already threatening to escape. Clementine had suggested one version of events, Trinity had immediately presented the complete opposite, and Gabriela suddenly looked delighted by the contradictory evidence being supplied about the man she had just started flirting with. She took a deliberately slow sip without breaking eye contact with Minjae, clearly making him wait for whatever conclusion she was pretending to form.

Gabby: Oh? So which one of them is lying, because apparently I need references before I continue this conversation.

She finally broke and laughed, Gabby wasn’t particularly interested in conducting a background check on somebody she had met beside a hot tub, and she certainly wasn’t about to pretend she had arrived expecting innocence from a man who flirted that comfortably. If anything, the commentary from his siblings and Trinity made him more entertaining because every new person seemed determined to contribute embarrassing information.

Gabby: Im kidding handsome, Whatever you did before I said hello is your business; I’m trying to figure out whether you’re interesting right now. Although I am absolutely remembering all of this in case you start acting too confident later.

Minjae had originally intended for the afternoon to remain simple: music, and enough uninterrupted time to finally finish the verse sitting unfinished in his notes. Somehow, that plan had transformed into Gabriela openly flirting with him, Benjamin criticizing his songwriting discipline, Clementine celebrating the fact that her brothers were apparently capable of speaking to women, and Trinity volunteering information nobody had requested. Minjae remained settled comfortably into the couch through all of it, while his phone sat loosely on his lap. He wasn't someone who needed to control every room he occupied, so most comments were allowed to pass without interruption while he quietly studied the personalities behind them. Unfortunately for everyone involved, that patience had limits. Gabriela's compliment toward his music had initially earned one of the warmer reactions from him, particularly because Minjae had already noticed her responding to several tracks before she officially acknowledged enjoying them. He glanced toward her from the couch, observing the margarita in her hand and the confidence behind the way she'd addressed him. There was nothing hesitant about Gabriela's interest, yet it wasn't obnoxiously performative either, which immediately made the interaction more appealing.

Minjae to Gabby: I'm glad it meets your standards. Although you gave yourself away about three songs ago, I was just polite enough not to call you out.

Minjae listened without interruption while his younger brother dismantled the entire matchmaking attempt and correctly pointed out that the only person suffering from romantic distraction was sitting beside him. The suggestion involving Gabriela's cousin earned considerably more interest because Benjamin hadn't rejected it nearly as aggressively as Minjae expected. He listened as his brother explain himself, refusing to interfere despite the temptation to continue making decisions on Benjamin's behalf. His protective nature often made him unnecessarily invested in the lives of the people closest to him, but protection and control were two entirely different things. Benjamin was entitled to decide whom he wanted to meet, even if Minjae reserved the older-brother privilege of occasionally placing opportunities directly in front of him. Once Benjamin admitted he wasn't completely opposed to meeting Gabriela's cousin, Minjae simply nodded toward Gabriela.
Minjae to Gabby: Then you've officially got the okay to proceed. Just make sure your cousin understands he's significantly stranger than the packaging suggests.

Gabriela's interest in getting closer to the orcas earned an immediate response before she could transform curiosity into an actual plan. Minjae turned toward her with an almost unnervingly calm expression, his phone lowering slightly in his hand.

Minjae to Gabby: No, Whatever scientifically fascinating argument you're about to assemble to justify swimming some fat ass fish, get rid of it. I'd prefer our first conversation not end with me explaining to the captain why I had to retrieve a supermodel from an orca pod.

Then Clementine arrived, Minjae initially greeted his sister with a simple nod of his head as she leaned between the brothers from behind the couch. That entire convo was going good until Clementine decided to open her mouth. Her exaggerated pride over Minjae and Benjamin “finally talking to women” immediately earned a slow blink, though Minjae allowed her to finish without interruption. Benjamin's amusement made matters worse, while Gabriela's expression practically announced that she had just received enough ammunition to entertain herself for the next twenty minutes. Minjae calmly locked his phone and looked toward Clementine.

Minjae to Clem: I'm going to give you an opportunity to reconsider the direction you're choosing. Because you're about to create a list of events that benefits everyone here except you.

Gabriela naturally ignored that warning on Clementine's behalf, happily inserting herself into the sibling harassment once she realized how entertaining the subject could become. Minjae tolerated most of it, watching her as she casually picked apart Clementine's implication and redirected portions of it toward the brothers. There was something unexpectedly charming about how quickly Gabriela could abandon the supermodel image whenever an opportunity to be unserious presented itself. Minjae even allowed several comments to pass with nothing more than a raised eyebrow. Then Gabriela repeated the implication she'd apparently extracted from Clementine's introduction. And one particular word reached him, Virgin. His thumb froze above the screen, the faint amusement disappeared from his face, and his eyes slowly moved away from Gabriela until they settled directly on Clementine. The look he gave his sister said a lot more than words could explain. There was no widened stare or exaggerated sibling outrage; Minjae simply looked at her with the same cold, expression that usually appeared when someone had made a poor decision and he was determining how to respond. Even his posture remained perfectly relaxed, creating a disturbing contrast with the promise behind his eyes. The music continued playing around them while Minjae allowed the silence to stretch just long enough for Clementine to understand that she had officially exhausted the protection normally afforded by being his sister.

Minjae: Clem... You've mistaken my patience for permission. You can embarrass me, tease me, criticize my choices, or manufacture whatever ridiculous stories entertain you. I tolerate it because you're my sister, and because ninety percent of what leaves your mouth isn't worth retaliating over. But if you're going to discuss my private life with people I've just met, learn where the boundary is before I teach it to you.

1787722289324.pngThe coldness lasted another second before Minjae simply turned away. That was the unsettling thing about him: anger rarely possessed him for long because he refused to surrender that much control to an emotion. He didn't continue threatening Clementine, didn't raise his voice, and didn't transform the afternoon into a dramatic argument simply because she'd irritated him. The boundary had been communicated, the matter was finished, and Minjae had no reason to keep feeding it. Trinity entering the hot tub provided a convenient shift in attention, though Minjae quickly discovered she wasn't going to improve his circumstances. He acknowledged her arrival with a small nod while she settled opposite Gabriela, initially expecting Trinity to remain an observer. Instead, she casually suggested Clementine had everything backward and that Minjae perhaps talked to women considerably too much. Minjae's thumb stopped moving for the second time in several minutes. He looked toward Trinity, then toward Gabriela, whose expression immediately told him the comment had successfully reopened the investigation into his romantic history. He made no serious effort to defend himself afterward because desperation to disprove an accusation generally made people appear considerably guiltier than silence ever could. Gabriela was intelligent enough to form her own opinion, and Minjae wasn't interested in constructing an artificial version of himself merely because he found her attractive. If she wanted to know about his relationships, she could eventually ask him directly; if she wanted to believe Clementine and Trinity, that was equally her decision. Minjae simply held Gabriela's gaze when she inevitably looked toward him for clarification.

Minjae: You're welcome to investigate, I suspect your curiosity would've eventually forced you to anyway. Just remember that your current sources have questionable motivations.

With the song finally finished, Minjae allowed himself to focus properly on Gabriela. He selected another track from the playlist, intentionally refusing to tell her what was coming because watching her genuine reaction was considerably more interesting. The music changed through the portable speaker while Parros continued growing against the horizon behind them, its enormous natural structures becoming clearer with every mile the Horizon traveled. Orcas still surfaced periodically alongside the ship, drawing Benjamin's attention whenever one appeared. Clementine remained dangerously close behind the couch, though Minjae hadn't forgotten her earlier betrayal merely because he'd stopped discussing it. Trinity's presence had turned the hot tub into an even larger social gathering, while Gabriela somehow remained the person Minjae's attention naturally returned toward. He eventually rested one arm along the back of the couch and regarded Gabriela with quiet interest, no longer attempting to disguise that she had successfully captured his attention. Minjae didn't need to impress her, and he certainly wasn't going to compete against whatever assumptions people already held about him.

Benjamin had been doing a surprisingly good job of staying out of the crossfire.

Surprisingly.

For somebody sitting dead in the middle of a rapidly escalating family interrogation, he’d managed to stay mostly uninvolved. He’d just leaned back into the couch, one leg tucked under him, headphones hanging around his neck while the music kept rolling from the portable speaker. He’d watched Clementine arrive. He’d watched her immediately throw both brothers under the bus. He’d watched Gabriela climb aboard the resulting train wreck with zero hesitation. Then Trinity had casually tossed gasoline on the whole pile, and Minjae had somehow stayed composed through almost all of it.

Almost.

Benjamin caught the exact second his brother’s face shifted when Gabriela dropped the word “virgin.” He covered his mouth like he was coughing, shoulders already shaking. It didn’t work. A quiet snort slipped out anyway.

“Man…” he muttered, rubbing under one eye. “Y’all are gonna make me start packing popcorn. I don’t even need entertainment on this cruise. I just need to sit next to the three of you and let you ruin each other’s lives. It’s honestly impressive.”

He looked at Clementine. “You showed up for thirty seconds. Thirty. And somehow you’ve already aired Minjae’s entire romantic history—or whatever version of it you decided was funniest today. That’s a talent.” His eyes moved to Gabriela. “And now Gabby’s got questions.” Then to Trinity. “And Trinity brought the director’s commentary. This isn’t a conversation anymore. This is a congressional hearing, except nobody here is qualified to testify. And somehow I’m still the only one who’s actually innocent.”

He pointed at himself. “I came up here to look at orcas. That’s it. Peaceful afternoon. Then this man started staring at Gabriela, Clem started exposing him, Trinity showed up with the extended edition, and Gabby started asking questions like she had a subpoena. I’m just sitting here watching the whole reality show I accidentally got cast in.”

He glanced at Gabriela, grin widening. “Oh, don’t worry, Gabby. You picked the right family if you’re looking for questionable sources. Clementine’s basically TMZ with a family membership. Trinity’s the director’s cut with deleted scenes. Probably commentary from the cast. I’m pretty sure Clem’s got behind-the-scenes footage somewhere. Don’t ask where. Just know she has it.”

Benjamin settled back, clearly enjoying himself. “But honestly? I wouldn’t believe either of them. Mostly because they both look way too happy about embarrassing him.” He narrowed his eyes at Clementine, still smiling. “You’ve got that look. The ‘I know something I’m not supposed to and I’m absolutely about to tell somebody’ look. It’s very professional. Very dedicated. Slightly terrifying.” Then at Trinity. “And you’ve got the look of somebody who doesn’t even need the full story before giving the final verdict. That’s dangerous. Efficient, but dangerous.”

A beat passed. Then his eyes slowly slid back to Minjae. His expression turned suspicious.

“Although… big bro did get real quiet when she said ‘virgin.’” He immediately leaned away, laughing. “I’m just saying! I’m observing the evidence. Objective observer. Completely unbiased. Professionally unbiased. I’ve received no financial compensation for this testimony. Yet.”

He raised both hands defensively before Minjae could even move. “Okay, okay, I’m done.” He wasn’t. Not even close.

When Gabriela joked about being his unofficial PR nightmare, Benjamin gave her an amused look. “Yeah, apparently I should’ve read the fine print before getting on this ship. Turns out the Williams family vacation package comes with complimentary embarrassment. Free family drama. Unlimited teasing. Zero privacy. Lifetime subscription to everybody knowing your business. No cancellation option. Customer service doesn’t even pick up. Terrible company.” He paused, then grinned. “Five stars. Would absolutely book again.”

His attention drifted for a second when another orca surfaced beside the ship, sunlight flashing across its back before it slipped under again. The joking softened. He watched the water carefully, then smiled.

“But hey… I’m not complaining. It’s a pretty good view.” His eyes flicked toward Parros, then the hot tub, then back to Gabriela. The smile turned just a little more intentional. “Island’s pretty nice too. Company ain’t bad either.”

He let that sit. Didn’t push it. Just leaned back looking entirely too pleased with himself.

Then his eyes narrowed playfully around the group. “Though I gotta admit… I’m starting to feel like everybody here is trying to get somebody hooked up. Minjae’s trying to find me somebody. Gabby’s investigating Minjae. Clementine’s running the family matchmaking department like it’s her full-time job. Trinity’s just here providing extremely unhelpful commentary—very entertaining, though, I’ll give you that. And apparently you’re conducting interviews now.” He leaned a little closer to Gabriela. “Do I need to fill out an application? Name: Benjamin. Age: eighteen. Occupation: professional troublemaker, part-time adventurer, full-time curious. References?” He pointed at Minjae. “Unfortunately him.” Then Clementine. “Definitely not her—she’s already got too much dirt on me.” Then Trinity. “Absolutely not her either. So yeah… I’m probably screwed. This is definitely gonna be a long cruise.”

He let the silence hang, then added with a more confident grin, “But if y’all are gonna keep talking about my love life, at least make sure the person you’re trying to introduce me to can keep up. Because I’m not looking for somebody who’s just cute. I need somebody interesting. Funny helps. Being able to handle sarcasm is mandatory. And if she’s gonna be around me, she needs to be okay with random adventures. If I see something weird, I’m investigating it. If I see some strange mountain formation, I’m asking what’s inside it. If I hear about a weird local legend, I’m finding out whether it’s real. That’s just how I am.”

He looked back at Gabriela. “So if your cousin is the kind of person who hears ‘there might be something dangerous over there’ and says ‘well, obviously we have to go look,’ then we might get along. If she hears that same sentence and says ‘Benjamin, that sounds incredibly unsafe and we should absolutely not do that’…” He shook his head, still smiling. “Yeah. No. She’s gonna get tired of me by day three. Otherwise we’re probably not making it past the first date.”

Almost as an afterthought, he looked at Minjae. “And you? You better actually keep that song finished. Because if you spent all that time staring at Gabriela just to release a terrible song, I’m telling everybody. Not just the family. I’m putting it on the playlist. I’m telling everybody on this ship. I’m waiting until we reach the island and telling everybody there too. By the time we leave Parros, that song is gonna be considered a historical event. ‘The song Minjae wrote instead of paying attention.’ Critics will love it.” He glanced at Gabriela. “Five stars. Beautiful production. Strong vocals. Unfortunately distracted by supermodel.”

He immediately broke into laughter and leaned away like he was protecting himself. “I’m kidding!

Mostly.”

Then he glanced toward the ocean again as another orca surfaced. He watched it for a few seconds before smiling, quieter this time.

“You know… I think I actually like this. The music. The chaos. The questionable journalism. The investigative journalism. The unsolicited commentary. The orcas. And that.” He nodded toward Parros, the island’s mountains and cliffs growing clearer under the afternoon light. “We haven’t even gotten there yet and already this trip feels like one of those stories everybody keeps bringing up years later. Remember that cruise where the orcas followed us, Minjae got interrogated about his dating life, Clem exposed everybody, Trinity made things worse, and somehow Benjamin almost got set up with a stranger before we even reached the island? Yeah. That’s gonna be this trip. And somehow I already know you guys are gonna blame me for half of it. I haven’t even done anything.” A slow grin. “…Yet.”

He leaned back, completely comfortable, then looked at Clementine. “You still owe me for exposing my love life. Don’t think I’m forgetting that.” Then Trinity. “You too. You walked in here and immediately contributed to the evidence.” Then Gabriela, tilting his head. “And Gabby… you’re technically innocent. For now. But you’ve been here for like five minutes and already know more about my family than some people we’ve known for years. That’s impressive. Welcome to the Williams family investigation.” He gestured around the group. “Meeting one Williams wasn’t enough. You accidentally got the whole subscription. And trust me… there’s no free trial. Once you’re in, you’re in.”
