She didn't hear the announcement the first time, she was still asleep.
The battle on Cereal lingered in fragments behind closed eyes. Flashes of crimson, shattered earth, the artificial moon hanging overhead, and the feeling of becoming something she hadn't been able to control. Even awake, those memories clung to her like smoke. When the intercom echoed through the ship a second time, she stirred with a quiet groan, blinking at the unfamiliar ceiling before finally sitting upright.
Her eyes drifted toward the empty space beside her where Lotren had already been. A faint smile tugged at her lips as she remembered the night prior, their "sessions" so to speak.. before she noticed the time.
"...Shit."
She scrambled out of bed, pulling on the first clean set of clothes she could find. She hurriedly tied the crimson sash around her waist and rushed through the corridors of Shivero's ship, earning a few curious looks from passing crew members as she hurried by. She muttered a quick apology to anyone she nearly collided with but never slowed her pace.
By the time she reached the command centre, she stopped outside the doors just long enough to catch her breath. She straightened her clothes, brushed a few loose strands of hair back into place, and took one slow breath before stepping inside, the moment she entered, she immediately lowering her head respectfully.
"My apologies, I overslept. "
She remained there for a moment before rising back up. Her eyes shifted briefly toward Lotren and Zerith, and despite the serious atmosphere, she couldn't help feeling relieved to see them both standing there. They had survived. That alone was enough, her gaze lingered on Lotren for a heartbeat before a small smile crossed her face.
"...The new outfit suits you."
Turning her attention back to Shivero, the smile faded, replaced by a more thoughtful expression.
"I heard enough before coming in to understand what happened. Cereal wasn't a clean victory. We survived, but we paid for it."
She looked down at her hands, quietly flexing her fingers as memories of the battle resurfaced.
"I learned something out there. I kept trying to answer strength with more strength, but the only reason I stayed alive was because I started paying attention. I stopped chasing my opponent and started studying him. If I hadn't, I wouldn't be standing here."
Her voice grew quieter as another memory surfaced
"And then there was... the transformation." For a brief moment, she hesitated.
"I remember pieces of it. Not all of it. I remember losing control, and I remember how easy it was to let instinct take over. That worries me more than anything else." Slowly, she closed her hand into a fist before meeting Shivero's gaze.
"If your brother is making his move, then whatever comes next is only going to be harder. I don't want to become someone my allies have to worry about protecting. I want to be someone they can rely on."
She stood a little straighter, the uncertainty fading from her expression and giving way to quiet determination.
"So if you're willing to train us... I'll give it everything I've got. However long it takes, I'll master that power instead of letting it master me."
